Nick Jonas and Dan Howell’s Tragic Love Story
Where do we even begin on this one?
Let’s start out with the fact that yesterday, one of the weirdest and best Twitter interactions of all time happened when Nick Jonas tweeted this.
OK, there’s a lot to talk about here.
First of all, there’s the use of the word “buddy.” So casual, so friendly, so out of place for someone who has interacted with this “buddy” once in his life??
Then there’s the historical context. Dan and Nick (whose ship name is #Dick for future reference) met in October when they appeared together on the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. A lot happened that day.
There was this beautiful “7 Second Challenge” interview wherein Nick gave the famous compliment, “I like your shirt, Dan, I like your shoes, Dan, I like your hair, Dan.” Please notice the copious amounts of cheeky eye contact.
Then when they went on stage to present together, they embraced in a hug that surprised Dan even more than it surprised us. Look at that shocked face.
So yeah, it does seem like they are blossoming buddies, doesn’t it? BUT WAIT. This goes back further than that. Much further. This goes back to 2010.
In the second ever annual “Phil Is Not On Fire” video, we witness a shocking confession.
*I have loved you since we were eighteen*
Perhaps they are buddies, indeed. So what’s the next step in their relationship? What did Nick have in mind when he thought, “You know, I’m gonna be in London soon! You know who I should hang out with? That cool dude, Dan, who I hugged that one time.”
Knowing Dan, the only thing we can picture is the two of them curled up on the sofa together in their pajamas, scrolling through Tumblr until 2 a.m., which is a pretty wonderful image. Or maybe they’d go into P-A-R-T-Y-B-O-Y-S mode and hit up da club.
But sadly, like many love stories, this one has a tragic ending. As fate would have it, Dan was on a plane to Tokyo at that very moment, flying across the world for a trip he and Phil had planned on a whim only weeks before.
*Sometimes it lasts in love, and sometimes it hurts instead.*
Poor Dan. Poor Nick. Poor #Dick.
The one beautiful thing to come from all this is the absolute havoc the Phandom has caused, as usual. They’ve made some beautiful artistic interpretations.
And they’ve spread “Hey buddy you in London?” to every corner of the Internet. It’s on Nick’s Instagram.
It’s all over Twitter.

It has gone down in Phandom history.

We know this won’t be the end of #Dick. It’s only the beginning.
